![]() Melbourne is a large city [over 3.5 million people] and has something to offer everybody. It also has many historic sites in and around the city such as St. Patrick's Cathedral an excellent example of Gothic Revival Architecture or the Flinders Street Railway Station which is the busiest suburban railway station in the southern hemisphere. One of the main events in Melbourne is the "Moomba Festival" with plenty of free family fun. There's no better way to try and get to know a the city than the free City Circle Tram Service that you can get on and off when ever you see something that you want to take closer look at. The Yarra River and the bay offer a whole host of water sports such as canoeing, fishing, boating, sailing, windsurfing, sailboarding, swimming and surfing. Melbourne's snowfields are all within 2 to 5 hours' drive, and both downhill and cross-country skiing are available. Melbourne also has numerous public and private golf courses, several of which are world famous.
