Hilo
![]() Hilo is Hawaii's second largest city and is also the "rainiest city in the United States" but the rain falls mostly at night so the city at the end of the rainbow is still a wonderful place to visit. Located on the Big Island of Hawaii it has many scenic parks and water falls nearby. Downtown Hilo hasn't fully recovered from two tidal waves or "tsunamis" that hit in 1946 and 1960. The tidal waves destroyed wooden storefronts on Kamehameha Avenue. A stretch of decorative gardens, specialty shops, and markets now draw the crowds to the seaward avenue, which is also a gateway to the town's immaculate beaches and nightlife action at Bayan Drive's hotels.
